Walk In and Own the Room: The STAR Method, Reinvented

You've heard of STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Everyone has. That's the problem — when every candidate answers the same way, interviewers tune it out.

It's time to upgrade to STAR+L: add a Lesson. 'Tell me about a time you failed' is still one of the most common interview questions, and it trips up candidates who aren't prepared to show growth. The L — what you learned and how it changed your approach — is what separates a rehearsed answer from a memorable one. Practice three core stories until they sound natural, not memorized. Always close with how the outcome benefited the team or company — not just you.
